Getting Connected

In order to get connected to the PSU network you must do the following three things:

  1. Make sure you have an active data jack in your area
  2. Get a PSU Computer Account account
  3. Make sure your computer is up-to-date and virus-free

1. Active Data Jacks

You can test to see if any of the data jacks are active by plugging an ethernet cord into the back of your computer and the jack in question. You should be able to access the internet without any configuration. If not, try another data jack. If none of the jacks work you will have to contact your NTS Coordinator to get the jack activated. Be sure to tell them which jack you want activated.

2. Get a PSU Computer Account account

A PSU Computer Account account gives you access to the PSU webmail system. It also provides you with a username and password that you will use to log on to the PSU Network and access many of the resources available to you here at PSU.

3. Make sure your computer is virus-free

PSU offers many, free, resources to make sure that your computer is up-to-date and virus-free. You can access these resources by going to the USS Help Desk in the basement of Smith Memorial Student Union Rm 18, or by see the USS Help Desk website.

If your computer becomes infected with a virus you will be put in OIT's Virus Jail until the problem is resolved.
