Cable Television

PSU operates its own cable television system. PSU Television delivers programming through a fully integrated campus-wide network, and offers many of the popular local and cable network channels (click here for the Channel Line up). Residents of Broadway, Epler, Ondine, and Blumel Hall receive cable programming as part of their rent. Some residents of Parkway may be able to order cable TV through Comcast. Please contact Comcast for further information.

All rooms in Broadway, Epler, Ondine, and Blumel Hall have outlets for cable television (CATV). There is a single CATV outlet per room. Therefore, it is advisable that residents coordinate with their roommate(s) regarding the use of a television/VCR set on campus. Residents who choose to bring televisions to campus should bring sets or VCRs that are cable-ready.

It is the responsibility of the residents to provide their own televisions and coaxial cables to connect their equipment to the wall CATV outlet (jack). Coaxial cables are available for purchase at most electronic stores.

Setting up Your TV/VCR

Use the following information to connect your television and/or VCR to the PSU Television system:

NOTE:The below configurations are based on typical television/VCR electronics. For specific information regarding the proper connection and operation of your equipment, please consult your manufacturer.

Configuration 1: Television Only

Connect the coaxial cable to the cable outlet.
Connect the other end to the “Cable In’ port on the back of your TV.

Configuration 2: Television and VCR

Connect the coaxial cable to the cable outlet on the wall.
Connect the other end to the “Cable/TV/Antenna In” port on the back of your VCR.
Connect one end of the second coaxial cable to the “TV Out” port on the back of your VCR.
Connect the other end to the "Cable In" port on the back of your TV.

After connecting your TV and/or VCR to PSU’s system, make sure your TV or VCR is set for CATV, and then use the auto channel/program feature on your TV or VCR to tune in and store all available channels.

NOTE: Several rooms in Ondine do not have a wall outlet but instead have a coaxial cable provided in the room. In those rooms, you should simply connect that coax cable directly to your TV or VCR depending on the configuration.

Troubleshooting

If you are not receiving a picture, or the reception is bad..

Make sure all cable wires are attached and screwed or pushed on securely (see setup diagram).
Try powering off any components that you have connected to your TV (including your VCR, video games, stereo, etc.).
Check to see if there is a button on your TV that configures your TV for different modes (CATV or OFF AIR/ANT). If so, it should be set to CATV (or CABLE) mode. Some TVs have a three position switch: STD, IRC, and HRC. The switch should be in the STD position.
Try disconnecting any components that you have connected to your TV, then plug the cable from the wall outlet directly to the TV. If that fixed the problem, you may have a problem with one of your components (VCR, video games, stereo, etc.).
If the problem is still not resolved, there may be a problem with your coaxial cable. Try using another one. If that did not fix the problem and your neighbor has a television, try connecting their set to your outlet to determine whether or not your outlet is functioning.
Are you the only one having a problem? Ask some of your neighbors if their TV sets are working.
Please try reading your owner's manual. If you don't have it, you may be able to find a copy on the web for your particular TV manufacturer.
If your neighbors' sets are working and you've checked all of these things, please stop by the ResLife main desk to report a problem with your cable television outlet (jack). Please note that PSU cannot help you configure your television or VCR; that is your responsibility.

NOTE: If you are only receiving channels 2-13 clearly, your outlet and connections are fine. Your TV is either not configured correctly for CABLE TV, or it is not cable-ready
